The history of Scott's Cycle and Fitness...

Scott's Cycle was founded in 1914 by Harry W. Scott who owned the business until 1965 when he sold it to the current owner, Larry Lewis. But Scott's Cycle used to be more than a bicycle shop. The original shop carried lawnmowers, motorcycles and bicycles. Unfortunately six months after Mr. Scott sold the business he passed away.

In the 1970's we saw the bicycle boom and Scott's was right in the thick of it leading the way by selling everyone Schwinn bicycles.

Unfortunately in the winter of 1991 the neighboring restaurant grill caught fire and burned Scott's Cycles historic building to the ground. Only two days later, Scott's reopened one block up the street. It was with the help of loyal customers that such an incredibly fast reopening took place.

When the 90's rolled around, the folks at Scott's were right there leading the way again but this time with the mountain bike craze.

During the summer of 2006 there was another fire scare as the neighboring McMahan's furniture store caught fire. The Salem Fire Department did a fantastic job of keeping the fire contained and preventing it from spreading to other buildings.

Now that we are in the new century Scott's continues to lead the way with the highest quality road bikes on the planet.

We are very excited to still be here and our love of bicycles has never wained and we will soon be celebrating our 100 year anniversary in 2014!
